Adamawa Government Reunites 14 Trafficked Children With Families

Yola, Adamawa State —  August 21, 2025

The Adamawa State Government on Wednesday reunited 14 children rescued from a human trafficking syndicate in Anambra State with their families during a ceremony at the Government House, Yola.

Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, who represented Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, said the rescue followed intelligence reports of missing children in July 2025, prompting joint operations by the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

State officials disclosed that a key suspect, identified as Ngozi Abdulwahab, was arrested in connection with the trafficking ring. Authorities allege that the minors, aged between four and nine years, were taken from communities across Adamawa and moved to the South-East, where some were sold for amounts ranging between ₦800,000 and ₦1.7 million.

Farauta commended security agencies for the rescue and assured parents that the government would pursue prosecution under Nigeria’s anti-trafficking laws.

The children, initially reported missing in July, were traced to Anambra and brought back to Yola for the official handover to their families.

Status: Children reunited; suspects in custody; investigations and court proceedings ongoing.
