Adamawa Launches Fresh Agricultural Initiatives to Boost Food Security

Yola, Nigeria | September 18, 2025

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has unveiled new agricultural programmes aimed at expanding food production, creating jobs, and strengthening Adamawa State’s agribusiness sector.
The initiatives include a soybean cultivation project in Demsa Local Government Area, undertaken in partnership with Aluvia Agriculture under the Agribusiness Support Programme (ADAS). The pilot scheme covers 100 hectares of farmland and is designed to promote cluster farming through farmer cooperatives.
In addition, the state government has approved ₦5 billion for the upgrade of 12 major livestock and grain markets across Adamawa. The project targets five cattle markets and seven grain markets, with planned improvements in infrastructure, drainage, and security to provide a more conducive environment for traders and investors.
The administration has also launched a scheme distributing fertilizers, improved seeds, and herbicides to farmers across six local government areas. Each area will host a 300-hectare pilot farm to demonstrate modern agricultural practices and strengthen local food supply.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that the state’s agricultural policies are tailored to create employment opportunities, particularly for youth and women, while ensuring long-term food security. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to providing necessary support, from infrastructure to regulatory backing, to sustain agribusiness development.
The governor added that successful pilot programmes will be expanded to all 21 local government areas of the state in the coming months.
