Prince Adewole Adebayo, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has expressed confidence that his party will win the presidency in 2027, effectively removing President Bola Tinubu from office.
Adebayo attributed his confidence to the SDP’s ability to learn from the mistakes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He emphasized that the SDP is a well-organized party that plays by the rules, with functioning institutions that will prevent the kind of infighting and power struggles that have plagued other parties.
The SDP leader also highlighted the party’s commitment to fairness and transparency, noting that they do not bribe delegates or breach party rules. Instead, the party supports the winner of its internal elections and respects the outcome.
Adebayo’s comments come as the SDP prepares for the 2027 presidential election. The party has already begun to attract high-profile defectors, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently joined the SDP.While Adebayo welcomed El-Rufai’s decision to join the party, he emphasized that the SDP’s processes will be fair and transparent, and that anyone seeking to join the party will be subject to its rules and procedures.
