Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi,” has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, according to a statement from his aide.
The announcement, confirmed today by Punch Newspapers, reveals that Adeola will “heed the calls” from party supporters and the wider Ogun community to run for the state’s top office.
Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West in the Senate, received backing from the incumbent governor, his supporters say. The statement points to “widespread support” and endorsement by the sitting governor as key motivating factors behind his decision.
In reacting to the development, analysts observe that this early declaration suggests Adeola is positioning himself ahead in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) primary races—which are expected to be fiercely contested in Ogun State.
