Afreximbank Opens 2025 Internship Applications, Offers $1,000 Monthly Stipend to Young Africans

In a move to deepen capacity building across the continent, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has officially opened its portal for the 2025 edition of its internship programme, targeting African students and recent graduates seeking practical exposure in trade, finance, and economic development.

The six-month internship scheme, which is highly competitive, aims to equip young Africans with firsthand knowledge and experience in a professional setting while fostering a new generation of change-makers who will shape the continent’s economic future. While the programme is technically unpaid in the conventional sense, successful applicants will enjoy significant support benefits, including a tax-free monthly stipend of $1,000.

In addition to the stipend, Afreximbank is offering a $500 monthly housing allowance for interns who are required to relocate from their current residence to the country of internship posting. This financial support is expected to ease the cost burden and attract top-tier talent from across Africa and the diaspora.

According to the bank, the internship will not only expose participants to the inner workings of one of Africa’s foremost multilateral financial institutions but also position them to work alongside seasoned professionals on impactful projects tied to Africa’s trade and industrialization agenda. Interns will be placed across different departments and will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the bank’s operations, thereby gaining skills that are both practical and globally relevant.

Afreximbank, headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, has consistently positioned itself at the heart of Africa’s trade development strategies. The bank is instrumental in financing intra-African trade and promoting economic integration under frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). As such, the internship is not only a career-launching platform but also a strategic investment in Africa’s human capital.

Eligible candidates must be students currently enrolled in a recognized undergraduate or postgraduate programme or recent graduates who have completed their studies within the last year. Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in French, Arabic or Portuguese is considered an added advantage.

Applications are currently open on the bank’s official website and will close on a date yet to be announced. With limited slots available, interested candidates are advised to apply early to enhance their chances of selection.

This internship opportunity by Afreximbank signals a growing recognition of the need to empower Africa’s youth through practical, hands-on exposure in institutions driving the continent’s economic renaissance.
