African Football Star Ademola Lookman , Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko Visit President Tinubu In Lagos

In a moment of national pride and recognition, Nigerian football sensation and reigning African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos on Friday, alongside the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko.

The visit comes on the heels of Lookman’s historic achievement at the continental stage, where he emerged as Africa’s best footballer after a stellar season that saw him power his club, Atalanta, to victory in the UEFA Europa League, and deliver key performances for the Super Eagles of Nigeria during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Nigeria finished as runners-up.

President Tinubu, who received the delegation at the Presidential Lodge in Marina, commended Lookman for bringing honour to the country through his exceptional talent, discipline, and dedication to the beautiful game. The President described the 26-year-old as “a shining example of the potential that lies in Nigeria’s youth when given the right environment to thrive.”

“Ademola Lookman’s success is not just personal, it is a symbol of Nigeria’s global excellence in sports. We are proud of him, and as a nation, we will continue to support our athletes to soar even higher,” President Tinubu stated.

Mallam Shehu Dikko, who accompanied Lookman, noted that the visit was part of the National Sports Commission’s initiative to foster stronger connections between the government and outstanding athletes who are raising the country’s flag high on international platforms. He also highlighted the government’s renewed focus on grassroots sports development and infrastructure.

Lookman, visibly elated, thanked President Tinubu for the warm reception and expressed his gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support throughout his football journey. He dedicated his recent award to the Nigerian youth, encouraging them never to give up on their dreams.

“It’s a great honour to be recognized back home. Nigeria is in my heart always, and I promise to continue making the country proud wherever I play,” he said.

The visit ended with a symbolic presentation of a commemorative jersey to President Tinubu, as both parties expressed optimism about the future of Nigerian sports under the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
