Addis Ababa — The African Union Commission has expressed deep concern over the recent travel ban imposed by the United States on citizens from several African countries. In a statement released today, the Commission underscored the need for fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory immigration policies that respect the dignity and rights of African travelers.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to fostering strong diplomatic relations with the United States and other international partners, emphasizing that collaboration and mutual respect remain critical to addressing global security and migration challenges.
“African countries continue to work diligently to improve security, combat terrorism, and facilitate lawful travel. We urge the United States and other nations to consider the broader impacts of travel restrictions on economic growth, cultural exchange, and people-to-people ties,” the statement said.
The African Union Commission called for ongoing dialogue to ensure that travel policies promote inclusivity, avoid undue harm to innocent citizens, and support the continent’s development goals.
The Commission affirmed its dedication to protecting the rights and interests of African citizens worldwide while encouraging constructive engagement to resolve the issues underpinning such measures.
