AGF Drops Charges Against Fidelity Bank CEO After Review, Case Against Bank Continues

The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has discontinued the criminal charges against Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Managing Director and CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, following a thorough review of the case. The charges stemmed from allegations of fraud involving approximately N19 billion linked to Woobs Resources Limited.

In a statement dated June 9, 2025, the AGF’s office clarified that Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe was neither the account officer nor the Managing Director at the time the disputed transactions occurred. Consequently, the Attorney General entered a nolle prosequi to discontinue the prosecution against her to prevent a miscarriage of justice.

The office emphasized that this action does not absolve Fidelity Bank Plc, which remains a defendant in the ongoing trial. The case against the bank continues before the courts, and the AGF urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the judicial process to run its course.

Originally filed earlier this year, the charges accused Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe and others of conspiring to misappropriate funds from Woobs Resources Limited’s account. Following the withdrawal of charges against her, the focus now remains solely on the bank as an institution.

The Attorney General reaffirmed his commitment to upholding justice and ensuring accountability for any proven wrongdoing. He appealed to Nigerians to remain patient and trust in the legal system to deliver a fair outcome.
