Abuja, Nigeria – June 14, 2025
In a spiritual appeal to address the nation’s food challenges, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has declared a three-day national prayer and fasting programme aimed at seeking divine intervention for improved food production and security across the country.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Agriculture, Senator Abubakar Kyari, who said the initiative reflects the government’s recognition of both practical and spiritual strategies in tackling the growing concerns around hunger, inflation, and climate-related disruptions to farming.
“This is a critical moment in our nation’s history, and we believe that beyond policy and programmes, we must also seek divine help to overcome the food crisis facing millions of Nigerians,” Kyari stated.
The three-day exercise, which begins on Monday, June 17 and ends on Wednesday, June 19, will involve prayers across all states of the federation. Religious leaders, farmers, agricultural workers, and the general public have been encouraged to participate.
The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening food value chains, supporting local farmers, and addressing post-harvest losses as part of a holistic approach to achieving sustainable food security.
