As Nigeria prepares for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, the Association for Hajj and Umrah Operators of Nigeria (AHOUN) is intensifying efforts to ensure smooth and efficient travel for Nigerian pilgrims. In an exclusive interview, Alhaji Abdul Lateef Yusuf Ekundayo, the CEO of Al-Firdaos Hajj and Umrah Services Limited and the President of AHOUN, highlighted the association’s preparations and the challenges it seeks to address in the lead-up to the pilgrimage.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has scheduled the first flight for May 9, 2025, with an estimated 43,000 Nigerian pilgrims expected to make the journey. AHOUN has confirmed that approximately 13,000 pilgrims will be airlifted by private operators, who have already secured visas and are finalizing flight arrangements to ensure that pilgrims depart on schedule.
However, AHOUN has raised concerns regarding recent delays in finalizing airlift agreements with local airlines. In response, the association is calling for increased support for Nigerian carriers, emphasizing that collaboration between government agencies, private operators, and airlines is essential to overcome logistical challenges. AHOUN believes that such collaboration will not only ensure timely airlift but also enhance the overall experience of the pilgrims.
The proactive measures taken by AHOUN underscore its commitment to delivering a seamless and dignified pilgrimage experience for Nigerian pilgrims. With its continued efforts to resolve airlift issues and foster greater cooperation, the association aims to uphold the comfort and safety of Nigerian pilgrims throughout their spiritual journey in 2025.
