Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has urged all stakeholders to support the ongoing Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign aimed at protecting adolescent girls from cervical cancer. The governor made the appeal during the official launch of the ‘Oya Campaign,’ a comprehensive initiative to increase HPV vaccine uptake and promote adolescent nutrition across the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted that over 321,000 girls aged 9 to 14 have already been vaccinated, representing about 94 percent of the state’s target coverage. He stressed the importance of community involvement to sustain and expand these efforts.
The campaign, supported by global partners including Gavi, UNICEF, WHO, and the Red Cross, also integrates nutrition education to enhance the overall well-being of adolescent girls, ensuring they receive vital information that will benefit their long-term health.
Speaking at the event, the governor called on parents, caregivers, teachers, and community leaders to actively participate in the campaign to safeguard the health and future of the state’s young girls.
The ‘Oya Campaign’ reflects Ondo State’s commitment to tackling cervical cancer and improving adolescent health through vaccination and education, with the goal of achieving lasting impact in the fight against preventable diseases.
