Uyo — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has received the Unity Torch of the forthcoming 22nd National Sports Festival, signaling the state’s readiness to participate and discover fresh sporting talents for Nigeria.
The torch, a symbol of national unity and competitive spirit, was formally handed over to Governor Eno on Sunday in Uyo, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting sports as a tool for youth development and social cohesion.
Governor Eno noted that Akwa Ibom, which has a growing reputation as a hub for sports in Nigeria, will leverage the festival to showcase budding talents who can compete on both national and global stages. He stressed that sports remain a critical avenue for engaging young people positively, boosting unity, and fostering peace across the country.
The governor further assured that his administration will continue investing in sports infrastructure, training, and grassroots development to position the state as a breeding ground for champions.
The National Sports Festival, often referred to as Nigeria’s “mini-Olympics,” is slated to hold later this year, bringing together athletes from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to compete across various disciplines.
