Alex Otti Denies Coalition Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to Labour Party

Umuahia, July 2, 2025 — Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has firmly dismissed speculations suggesting his involvement in any political coalition, reaffirming his unwavering commitment to the Labour Party (LP).

In a statement issued through his media office on Tuesday, Governor Otti described recent reports linking him to opposition coalitions as false and misleading. He reiterated that he remains a dedicated member of the Labour Party and has no plans to align with any other political alliance.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I am not part of any coalition. I remain a proud and committed member of the Labour Party under which I was elected by the good people of Abia State,” the governor stated.

He urged the public to disregard what he called deliberate attempts by political detractors to create confusion and distract his administration from its development-focused agenda. According to him, such rumours are often circulated by those unsettled by the growing popularity of the Labour Party and his government’s performance.

Governor Otti emphasized that his primary focus remains on delivering good governance to the people of Abia, deepening public sector reforms, improving infrastructure, and building a more transparent and inclusive economy.

“My allegiance is to the people who elected me and the platform through which I emerged. Nothing has changed. We are focused on transforming Abia and restoring the trust of our citizens in governance,” he added.

The clarification comes amid increased political realignments and coalition talks in some quarters ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, Otti’s declaration puts to rest any doubts about his political affiliation and future intentions.

Political observers say the governor’s strong stance is consistent with his reform-driven leadership style and may strengthen internal cohesion within the Labour Party as it positions itself for greater national relevance.
