All Southeast Governors Supporting President Tinubu; Lagos-Calabar Superhighway to Be Tolled From December – Umahi

ENUGU — Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared that all governors of the South-East geopolitical zone are in full support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, citing their collaboration on infrastructure and national development projects.

Speaking over the weekend during an inspection tour of federal road projects in the region, Umahi commended the unity among the Southeast governors, regardless of party affiliation, noting that their cooperation with the Federal Government is yielding results across key sectors.

“We are very proud of our Southeast governors. They are all working closely with the President. What we see is political maturity and commitment to the people,” Umahi said. “President Tinubu’s infrastructure drive cuts across regions, and the South-East is not left out.”

The Minister also provided an update on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, one of the administration’s flagship road infrastructure projects. He revealed that tolling on the highway is expected to begin in December 2025, upon completion of the first sections.

“The Lagos-Calabar Superhighway is progressing steadily, and by December this year, we will commence tolling on the completed sections. It is part of the sustainability plan to maintain the corridor and recover investments,” Umahi stated.

He explained that the tolling model will adopt electronic payment systems and concessionary rates for frequent users, with special considerations for residents along the highway corridor.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, spanning over 700 kilometers, is designed to link several coastal cities and economic zones, boosting commerce, tourism, and regional connectivity.

The project has faced both praise and scrutiny since its launch in March 2024, with concerns raised over environmental impact and resettlement. However, the Federal Government has insisted that due process and environmental safeguards are being adhered to.
