As the Anambra governorship election draws near, Hon. Obidike Chukwuebuka, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed confidence that the party’s candidate will uphold the four-year zoning formula favoring Anambra South. This statement comes despite the APC’s public stance of distancing itself from any zoning arrangement.
Valentine Iyke-Oliobi, the Anambra APC Publicity Secretary, clarified that the APC has never been part of a zoning formula with other political parties in the state. According to him, the APC provides equal opportunities for all its members to contest for the party’s ticket, regardless of their senatorial districts.
Nevertheless, Obidike’s remarks suggest that the APC remains committed to the zoning principle, a long-standing and contentious issue in Anambra politics. He emphasized that with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strong electoral track record and reputation as a master strategist, the APC’s candidate is well-positioned to gain broad support.
Obidike highlighted Tinubu’s ability to mobilize voters, which has been instrumental in the party’s past successes, thereby strengthening the APC’s prospects in the upcoming election.
