Anambra State Government Clamps Down on Phone Use in Schools

In a bid to boost academic excellence and curb distractions, the Anambra State Government has prohibited students from using mobile phones in schools. The state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, disclosed that the ban was necessitated by the alarming rate at which students were becoming increasingly distracted by social media and other phone-related activities. According to Chuma-Udeh, the excessive use of mobile phones has been linked to declining academic performance, increased indiscipline, and a lack of focus among students. To enforce the ban, school administrators have been directed to confiscate any phone found on a student during school hours. Repeat offenders will face stiffer disciplinary actions. The move has been lauded by parents and educators, who believe it will help students concentrate on their studies and develop better learning habits. However, some students have expressed dissatisfaction with the ban, arguing that it will hinder their ability to access information and communicate with their parents during emergencies. As the debate continues, the Anambra State Government remains resolute in its decision, emphasizing that the ban is in the best interest of the students and the state’s education system.
