Angola, Nigeria to Hold 5th Bilateral Joint Commission Meeting in Luanda

Abuja, Nigeria | September 8, 2025

The fifth session of the Angola-Nigeria Bilateral Joint Commission is set to begin on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in Luanda, Angola, with top officials from both nations expected to review and strengthen cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.

According to diplomatic sources in Abuja, the meeting will focus on consolidating bilateral ties between the two African oil producers, with discussions expected to cover trade, energy, security, and cultural exchanges.

The Angola-Nigeria Bilateral Joint Commission, established to foster stronger diplomatic and economic relations, has over the years served as a platform for both countries to explore joint opportunities, address challenges, and deepen collaboration within the framework of regional and continental integration.

The Abuja delegation, led by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is expected to highlight Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Angola as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader foreign policy agenda of advancing economic diplomacy and South-South cooperation.

Observers say the meeting comes at a crucial time, as both countries seek to diversify their economies beyond oil, expand trade opportunities, and coordinate positions within the African Union and other multilateral forums.
