Apapa Customs Seals Three Bonded Terminals for Violations, Rakes in ₦1.378 Trillion in Half-Year Revenue

July 5, 2025 | Lagos, Nigeria

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has intensified its clampdown on non-compliant terminal operators, sealing three bonded terminals over various infractions.

This was disclosed by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, during the command’s mid-year performance briefing held on Thursday, July 3, 2025. According to him, one of the affected terminals is already facing prosecution, while investigations are ongoing in the other two cases.

In addition to enforcement efforts, the command recorded remarkable revenue growth, collecting a total of ₦1.378 trillion between January and June 2025. This represents a 35% increase compared to ₦1.023 trillion generated in the same period last year, a margin of ₦354 billion.

“Our revenue collection trajectory signals the likelihood of meeting or even exceeding our annual target before the year ends,” Olomu noted.

He credited the achievement to the commitment of officers, the cooperation of compliant stakeholders, and the consistent application of due diligence under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

“In our drive to block revenue leakages, we apply Demand Notices (DN) appropriately and ensure full compliance with statutory requirements,” Olomu emphasized.

On enforcement, the CAC revealed that 27 containers of contraband goods were intercepted in the first half of the year, with a duty paid value (DPV) of ₦9.267 billion. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding trade integrity, improving compliance levels, and ensuring optimal revenue generation in line with national economic goals.
