APC National Chairman Ganduje Hosts Cuban Ambassador, Explores Bilateral Collaboration

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, on Monday received the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Nigeria, Her Excellency Miriam Morales Palmero, at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, as both parties explored avenues for stronger bilateral ties and strategic collaboration.

The diplomatic engagement, which was attended by senior APC officials, focused on deepening mutual interests between Nigeria and Cuba, particularly in the areas of health, education, biotechnology, and party-to-party relations.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Ganduje praised the historical solidarity between Nigeria and Cuba and expressed optimism that the renewed engagement would foster stronger cooperation between both countries. He highlighted the importance of building global alliances that support people-oriented development and political stability.

“We are honoured to receive Her Excellency at our headquarters. Cuba has been a strong voice on the global stage, especially in healthcare and human capital development. This visit opens new possibilities for learning, collaboration, and party diplomacy,” Ganduje stated.

Ambassador Palmero, in her remarks, thanked the APC leadership for the warm reception and reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and developmental cooperation with Nigeria. She noted that Cuba is ready to share its expertise in areas such as public health, medical training, and disaster response, where the country has earned global recognition.

“This visit is not only diplomatic, it is also symbolic. It signifies the goodwill of the Cuban people and our desire to build bridges of understanding and shared progress with Nigeria,” she said.

Both parties agreed to sustain engagements that will facilitate people-to-people contacts, technical partnerships, and cultural exchange. Discussions also touched on exploring channels for political cooperation between Cuba’s Communist Party and Nigeria’s ruling APC, in line with global trends of party-level diplomacy.

Dr. Ganduje assured the ambassador of the party’s support in fostering platforms for engagement and facilitating institutional linkages that can yield tangible results for both countries.

The meeting is seen as part of the APC’s efforts to broaden its international outlook and embrace diplomacy as a tool for national development and party growth. It also underscores Nigeria’s strategic interest in strengthening South-South cooperation as a means of building solidarity among developing nations.
