APC Sweeps Epe, Eredo and Ibeju Lekki Chairmanship Polls — LASIEC

The All Progressives Congress has emerged victorious in the just concluded chairmanship elections across Epe, Eredo and Ibeju Lekki Local Government Areas of Lagos State, according to results announced by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission.

The results were declared late Saturday night at approximately 11.55 p.m. by respective returning officers at the local government secretariats in the three areas. The elections, closely watched as a test of the APC’s grassroots hold, saw the ruling party dominate its rivals in all three contests.

In Epe Local Government Area, the Returning Officer, Professor Habeeb Sanni, declared Ms Surah Animashaun the winner of the chairmanship election after she polled 34,819 votes. She comfortably defeated her opponents from the Peoples Democratic Party who polled 1,535 votes, and the Labour Party who managed 675 votes.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Ms Surah Animashaun as the duly elected chairman of Epe LG,” Sanni announced at the collation centre.

In Eredo Local Council Development Area, the APC also recorded a landslide victory. Dr Afolabi Onasanya, the Returning Officer, announced that the party’s candidate, Mr Monsuru Akinloye, won with 25,017 votes, leaving the PDP with just 424 votes.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Mr Monsuru Akinloye as the duly elected chairman of Eredo LCDA,” Onasanya stated.

Meanwhile, in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, APC candidate Mr Sesan Olowa was returned elected after scoring an emphatic 59,342 votes. His closest challengers fell far behind, with the Labour Party receiving 45 votes and the PDP 740 votes.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Mr Sesan Olowa as the duly elected chairman of Ibeju Lekki LG,” Onasanya declared.

The APC’s clean sweep across the three councils reaffirms the party’s strong political dominance in Lagos State’s grassroots politics. Observers say the outcome underscores the importance of structure and local mobilisation in securing electoral victories at the council level.

Political analysts have noted that the wide margins of victory also raise questions about the strength and presence of the opposition parties in these areas. The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission had earlier assured voters of transparency and fairness in the conduct of the election.

With the completion of these results, attention now shifts to other local councils in the state as the full picture of the local government elections unfolds.
