Army Chief Urges Recruits to Brace for Battle Against Terrorism, Insurgency

Zaria, Kaduna State – June 14, 2025

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has charged newly passed-out soldiers from the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, to be combat-ready for the challenges of terrorism and insurgency across the country.

Addressing the Passing Out Parade of 6,195 recruits of the 88 Regular Recruits Intake on Saturday, Oluyede commended the recruits for successfully completing their rigorous basic training, which began on January 13, 2025.

He urged them to uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army, discipline, loyalty, integrity, selfless service, courage, and respect for others, as they begin their service to the nation.

“As you pass out today and take your place in this noble profession, be aware that you will form part of our nation’s solutions to the challenges of terrorism and insurgency,” Oluyede said. “Wherever you are deployed, your actions must reflect your training. You must display courage in the face of adversity.”

The COAS noted that a soldier’s life demands sacrifice, patriotism, and professionalism, describing the Army as a critical institution for safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.

He emphasized that the recruits had been well-equipped for the challenges ahead, even as they prepare to face real-world threats and uncertainties in various operational theaters.

“The journey of a thousand miles began with your first step into Depot Nigerian Army. Now, you are ready to contribute to the security and unity of Nigeria,” he said.

General Oluyede also reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of troops, assuring the recruits that their wellbeing remains a top priority under his leadership.

“Take a short but well-deserved break, but be prepared, as the 89 Regular Recruits Intake process is already in advanced stages,” he added.

The COAS extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support to the Nigerian Army. He also acknowledged the roles of stakeholders and training officers in successfully shaping the next generation of soldiers.

“I appreciate Mr. President for his steadfast belief in and unwavering support of the Nigerian Army,” Oluyede concluded.

The Passing Out Parade marked a significant milestone in the Army’s recruitment efforts and national security strategy, as the nation continues its fight against violent extremism and internal security threats.
