London — August 10, 2025
Arsenal ended their pre-season campaign in style on Saturday, claiming the 2025 Emirates Cup with a commanding 3–0 victory over Athletic Club at the Emirates Stadium.
New signing Viktor Gyökeres opened the scoring with his first goal for the club, heading in an inch-perfect cross from Martin Zubimendi in the first half. Just two minutes later, Bukayo Saka doubled the advantage with a clinical finish, before substitute Kai Havertz sealed the win late on.
The Gunners controlled proceedings throughout, limiting Athletic to few chances, particularly after the interval. The afternoon concluded with a ceremonial penalty shootout, which Arsenal also won.
The result provides a morale boost for Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 17. Athletic Club, meanwhile, remain winless in pre-season and face mounting concerns over injuries and form with La Liga’s start just a week away.
