Atiku’s Presidential Ambition May Not Be His Destiny, Says Daniel Bwala

Legal practitioner and political analyst, Daniel Bwala, has sparked fresh reactions following his comment suggesting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may not have been destined to occupy Nigeria’s highest political office, despite several attempts.

Speaking during a recent media engagement, Bwala, who was formerly one of Atiku’s key spokespersons during the 2023 presidential campaign, noted that while the former Vice President remains one of the most experienced and determined political figures in Nigeria’s democratic history, his repeated losses at the polls may point to a different divine outcome.

Bwala remarked that destiny often plays a defining role in political journeys, regardless of ambition or preparation, and hinted that Atiku’s path might not align with the presidential seat he has long pursued.

Atiku Abubakar has contested for the presidency multiple times since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, emerging as a consistent figure in national politics. However, despite his political reach, resources, and alliances, electoral victory at the presidential level has continued to elude him.

Bwala’s statement comes amid ongoing speculation about the future of the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates intensifying over leadership renewal and the viability of longstanding aspirants. His comments are seen as a reflection of the internal reassessment taking place within Nigeria’s political space.
