Barcelona to Remain at Olympic Stadium Through Season Amid Camp Nou Renovation Delays

Barcelona will continue hosting their remaining 2023-24 home fixtures at the city’s Olympic Stadium as delays plague the ongoing redevelopment of Camp Nou, the club confirmed to Agence France-Presse on Thursday.

The La Liga leaders initially aimed to return to their iconic stadium this season but later adjusted timelines to late 2024, a target now abandoned due to persistent construction setbacks. Club members were notified Thursday that tickets for remaining domestic and Champions League matches would remain available at their temporary 55,000-seat Olympic home, where Barça has played since the start of the campaign.

Camp Nou, undergoing a transformative €1.5 billion renovation since June 2023, is now slated to partially reopen next season with a reduced capacity of approximately 60,000. The project, hindered by bureaucratic permit delays and worker complaints over conditions, is expected to reach full completion in summer 2026, expanding the venue’s capacity to 105,000.

Barcelona’s relocation to the 1992 Olympic venue—officially named Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys—marks a significant shift for fans and players alike, as the club navigates the logistical and financial challenges of its ambitious Espai Barça infrastructure project. The revamped Camp Nou will feature enhanced facilities, including a retractable roof and modernized amenities, positioning it among Europe’s elite football arenas.

Club officials emphasized their commitment to minimizing disruption, though the extended timeline underscores the complexity of one of football’s most extensive stadium overhauls. With critical phases of construction still ahead, Barcelona’s storied home ground remains a symbol of both heritage and evolution as the club balances its illustrious past with a forward-looking vision.
