FC Barcelona’s attempts to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor have hit a roadblock after La Liga declared that the club lacks the financial capacity to do so. In January, Barcelona announced a €100 million VIP box deal for the reconstructed Camp Nou stadium, claiming it would meet La Liga’s financial fair play requirements.
However, La Liga disputes this, stating that the deal was not reflected in Barcelona’s financial records as initially presented. La Liga has reported the auditor responsible for the initial transaction to Spain’s Accounting and Auditing Institute for further scrutiny.
The league’s statement reads: “No amount from the VIP box deal is ultimately recorded in the profit and loss accounts, contrary to what had been certified by the club and the auditor at the time of said transaction.”
The Spanish Sports Council (CSD) granted Barcelona provisional permission to use Olmo and Víctor on January 8, after the club failed to register them before the December 31 deadline. A final decision is expected on or before April 7.
Since registering under an injury-replacement loophole, Olmo has made 13 appearances, scoring two goals and providing four assists, while Víctor has featured five times as a substitute. The coming days will determine whether Barcelona’s financial maneuvers will stand, or if the club will be forced to release the players due to financial fair play restrictions.
