Bauchi Government Approves ₦45 Billion Upgrade of State-Owned Fertiliser Blending Plant

The Bauchi State Government has approved a ₦45 billion investment for the comprehensive upgrade of its state-owned fertiliser blending plant, as part of ongoing efforts to boost agricultural productivity and enhance food security.

Governor Bala Mohammed disclosed this during a press briefing on Tuesday, noting that the revitalization of the facility will position Bauchi as a leading hub for agro-based industrialisation in the North-East.

According to the governor, the massive upgrade is expected to modernize equipment, improve blending capacity, and ensure the production of high-quality fertiliser tailored to the specific soil needs of farmers in the region.

“This project is not just an investment in infrastructure; it is an investment in our farmers, in food security, and in the economic empowerment of Bauchi people. We want to ensure timely and affordable access to fertiliser for all farmers,” Governor Mohammed stated.

He added that the upgrade aligns with his administration’s agricultural transformation agenda and would create hundreds of jobs directly and indirectly.

The state government also revealed that the facility, once operational at full capacity, will serve not just Bauchi but neighbouring states, further strengthening regional economic cooperation.

The fertiliser plant upgrade is part of a broader strategy to diversify the state’s economy and reduce over-reliance on federal allocations.
