Bode George Urges Prayers, Refrains from Critiquing Buhari’s Legacy During Mourning

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the South West, Chief Bode George, has chosen restraint and reflection in the wake of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s passing, emphasizing the need for solemnity rather than political commentary.

Speaking to journalists shortly after news of the former president’s internment, Chief George stated that he had been taught not to delve into critiques of a leader’s policies on the day of their burial. “I was trained not to talk so much about the late Muhammadu Buhari’s policies on the day of his internment,” he said.

Instead, the elder statesman called on Nigerians to offer prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul. “All we need to do is pray to the Almighty God to give him eternal rest in His kingdom,” he added.

Chief George’s remarks reflect a call for national unity and respect in mourning, even amid sharp political differences that once defined Buhari’s time in office. His tone underscores a broader cultural value in Nigeria that prioritizes dignity and compassion during periods of bereavement.

The late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled Nigeria between 2015 and 2023, was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites. Tributes have continued to pour in from across the political spectrum, recognizing his role in shaping Nigeria’s recent history.
