Maiduguri, June 21, 2025 – The Borno State Police Command reported a major breakthrough following a vigorous week-long operation, resulting in the arrest of 210 suspects across the state and the seizure of significant quantities of illicit drugs and weapons.
Addressing journalists at the command headquarters, Commissioner of Police Naziru AbdulMajid confirmed that from June 11 to 18, 86 of those arrested have already been convicted, while 124 are still under investigation. He credited the success to coordinated efforts involving raids, surveillance, stop-and-search actions, and joint enforcement by the Rapid Response Squad’s Social Vices Unit .
Recovered contraband includes 58 sachets of tramadol, 175 Exzol tablets, 130 D5 tablets, 395 wraps and one kilogram of suspected Indian hemp, 28 Ermo tablets, 10 bottles of drug syrup, 19 shisha pots and pipes, nine knives, and two customised antelope horns . These items were discovered in hotspot areas known for handset snatching, youth gangsterism, and drug abuse.
Commissioner AbdulMajid praised the dedication of officers and the support from the Borno State government, especially the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, for facilitating swift prosecutions. He urged residents to assist security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and warned that the police will no longer tolerate criminal activity within the state .
The operation reflects a robust security posture by the Borno State Police Command and marks a renewed effort to restore safety and order across a region long affected by insurgency and social unrest.
