Canada-Based Nigerian Faces Life Sentence for Killing Homeless Man

A 31-year-old Nigerian man, Adimabua Chukwuka, is facing a possible life sentence after being charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 60-year-old homeless man, Mario Ferreira, in Toronto, Canada.
Toronto Police Service’s 52 Division arrested Chukwuka last Friday after receiving a tip from the public. Reports indicate that he attacked Ferreira without provocation, leading to the victim’s tragic death.

Authorities responded to an emergency call on March 20 after University of Toronto Campus Safety Special Constables discovered an unconscious man near 144 College St. Despite efforts by paramedics, firefighters, and police officers, Ferreira was pronounced dead at the scene. Detective Trevor Grieve reaffirmed the department’s commitment to justice, urging witnesses to come forward.

“We are committed to bringing justice to Mr. Ferreira and his loved ones. Anyone who may have seen anything, no matter how small, should contact us immediately,” he stated.

Following the release of Chukwuka’s photo on March 21, police were able to take him into custody and formally charge him with first-degree murder.
Detective Grieve revealed that security cameras captured the moment of the attack. Footage reportedly shows Ferreira lying on a bench near 6 Queen’s Park Crescent around 5:20 a.m. when Chukwuka armed himself with debris—believed to be from a construction site or dumpster—and launched a violent, unprovoked assault.

The suspect repeatedly and violently attacked Mr. Ferreira before fleeing the area, still holding the weapon used in the assault.
