Canada Honours EFCC Chairman Olukoyede for Outstanding Contribution to Global Crime Fight

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has been honoured by the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria for his exceptional efforts in the global fight against transnational crime.

During a ceremony held at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Pasquale Salvaggio, presented a Certificate of Recognition to Mr. Olukoyede. The award acknowledges his leadership and the EFCC’s critical role in combating organized criminal activities that transcend national borders.

High Commissioner Salvaggio praised the EFCC’s robust efforts in tackling crimes such as money laundering, vehicle trafficking, internet fraud, and drug smuggling. He particularly commended the Commission’s commitment to international cooperation, which he described as instrumental in dismantling global criminal networks.

The High Commissioner cited “Operation Hot Wheels,” a recent joint operation involving the EFCC, the Nigeria Customs Service, and Canadian law enforcement, as a successful example of bilateral collaboration. The operation disrupted a major cross-border vehicle trafficking ring and highlighted the value of shared intelligence and coordinated action.

In his remarks, Mr. Olukoyede expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, describing it as both an honour and a motivation. He reaffirmed the EFCC’s dedication to working closely with international partners to curb the spread of transnational crime. “No single country can effectively combat global crime alone. We must work together, share intelligence, and build operational synergies,” he stated.

Also honoured at the event were the Nigeria Customs Service, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) of the Nigeria Police. Representatives of these agencies were presented with certificates in recognition of their cooperation with Canadian authorities and their efforts in securing regional and global safety.

The award underscores Canada’s continued support for Nigeria’s anti-corruption and law enforcement institutions and reinforces the importance of international alliances in tackling organized crime.
