CAVB Commends Nigeria Customs for Successful Hosting of 39th Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship

The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has formally commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its outstanding organisation and successful hosting of the 39th Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship held in Abuja, Nigeria.

The tournament, which ran from April 1 to April 14, 2025, brought together 16 elite volleyball clubs from 10 African nations, making it one of the most significant gatherings in the sport’s recent history on the continent. It also marked the first time in several years that the prestigious championship was hosted outside North Africa.

In a letter addressed to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, CAVB President, Bouchra Hajij, praised the NCS for delivering what she described as a “world-class championship.” She highlighted the quality of facilities, smooth logistics, and the warm hospitality extended to the teams and officials throughout the tournament.

“The Nigeria Customs Service has set a new benchmark in the hosting of continental volleyball events. The energy, professionalism, and commitment to excellence shown in this championship are worthy of emulation,” Hajij stated.

The opening ceremony was graced by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who commended the organisers for using sport to promote unity and cultural exchange. The event featured colourful performances showcasing Nigeria’s rich heritage, adding a unique cultural dimension to the tournament.

Beyond the games, the championship also served as a platform for youth empowerment and gender inclusion in sports. The Nigeria Customs Service, through its active female volleyball team, continues to champion opportunities for women in professional sports.

The CG of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed gratitude for the recognition and reiterated the Service’s commitment to supporting national development through sporting initiatives. He noted that hosting such a prestigious competition aligns with the Customs’ broader mission of community engagement and national pride.

The successful execution of the championship has positioned Nigeria as a viable host for future continental and international sporting events, reinforcing its place on Africa’s sports map.
