CBN Governor Cardoso Says Public Confidence in Naira Has Strengthened

July 23, 2025 – Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, has affirmed that Nigerians are beginning to show renewed confidence in the Naira, attributing this shift to the effectiveness of recent monetary policies introduced by the apex bank.

Speaking at the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday, Dr. Cardoso noted that improved exchange rate stability and declining inflationary pressures have contributed to restoring public trust in the national currency.

According to the CBN governor, the monetary authority’s strategic interventions, including foreign exchange market reforms, tightening of liquidity, and enhanced transparency in forex transactions, have positively influenced economic sentiment and the value of the Naira.

“We are witnessing a positive trend in public perception toward the Naira,” Cardoso stated. “This is a result of sustained policy discipline and a collective effort to stabilize the financial environment.”

He further emphasized the need for continued collaboration between fiscal and monetary authorities to build on the gains recorded so far. The MPC also reviewed key economic indicators and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s medium-term economic outlook, provided current policy measures are maintained.

Cardoso concluded by urging Nigerians to continue supporting the Naira by reducing their dependence on foreign currencies and embracing homegrown solutions to economic challenges.
