CCB Chairman Calls for Collective Fight Against Corruption in Nigeria

The Chairman of Nigeria’s Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Dr. Abdullahi Bello, has called for a collective effort in the fight against corruption, stressing that it should not be left solely to law enforcement agencies.

Dr. Bello made the remarks on Saturday during the 23rd bi-annual lecture and graduation ceremony of the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development held in Abuja. He emphasized that corruption remains an endemic challenge in Nigeria, undermining public trust and institutional integrity.

Supporting his statement, Transparency International’s 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index ranks Nigeria 140th out of 180 countries, with a score of 26 out of 100. The World Bank’s 2023 Control of Corruption indicator places Nigeria at -1.04, highlighting ongoing governance challenges.

Dr. Bello urged all sectors of society—including government, civil society, the private sector, and citizens—to actively participate in fostering integrity and accountability. He reiterated the CCB’s commitment to promoting ethical conduct among public officers as part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s institutions and ensure sustainable development.
