Cleric Urges President Tinubu to Enforce Accountability and Track Performance Among Appointees

A prominent Nigerian cleric has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen governance by closely monitoring the performance of his appointees and holding them accountable to the expectations of public service. The religious leader, while addressing members of his congregation during a sermon on national responsibility, stressed that true leadership goes beyond appointments and political alliances, urging the President to demand results from those entrusted with the management of critical sectors.

According to the cleric, who spoke with deep concern about the current state of the nation, Nigerians are growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of tangible progress in areas such as the economy, education, security, and infrastructure. He noted that while President Tinubu’s administration came into office with the promise of renewed hope, such hope can only be sustained if ministers, advisers, and heads of government agencies are kept on their toes through consistent evaluation and measurable performance indicators.

He further advised that the Presidency should not hesitate to replace any underperforming appointee, regardless of political loyalty, regional considerations, or party affiliation. In his words, leadership is about service, not sentiment, and the country cannot afford to waste time or resources on individuals who are more focused on personal gains than national development.

The cleric commended the President for his efforts so far in navigating complex governance challenges but insisted that without a robust accountability framework, even the most well-intentioned policies may fail to produce the desired results. He added that appointees must be made to understand that public office is a position of trust that demands integrity, efficiency, and transparency.

As the administration continues to implement key economic and institutional reforms, the religious leader urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, prayerful, and active in demanding better governance, while also playing their part as responsible citizens.

This call for accountability resonates with growing public sentiment that performance metrics and regular evaluations should become standard practice in Nigerian leadership culture—particularly at a time when the country is in urgent need of competent stewardship across all levels of government.
