CNG Price Pegged at N380/SCM in Lagos, Abuja as Uniform Tariff Takes Effect Nationwide

Abuja, September 2, 2025 – The Federal Government’s new policy on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) pricing has officially taken effect, with pump rates now fixed at ₦380 per Standard Cubic Metre (SCM) in Lagos, Abuja, and other parts of the country.

The uniform tariff regime, announced by regulatory authorities, is aimed at creating stability in the CNG market, ensuring transparency, and encouraging broader adoption of gas as an affordable alternative to petrol and diesel.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that it provides clarity for consumers and investors, though concerns remain over distribution bottlenecks, limited refueling stations, and the need for expanded infrastructure to sustain demand.

Analysts say the shift toward CNG aligns with the Federal Government’s energy transition agenda, designed to reduce dependence on petrol, cut carbon emissions, and cushion Nigerians against the volatility of global oil prices.

Transport operators in Abuja and Lagos told reporters that while the uniform rate offers predictability, operational challenges such as long queues at filling points and conversion costs for vehicles remain significant hurdles to mass adoption.
