Coalition Urges Wike and Fubara to Sign Peace Agreement Within 90 Days

The Coalition for Democracy and Development (CDD) has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to set aside their political differences and commit to signing a peace agreement within the next 90 days.

In a statement signed by its Public Secretary, Dr. George Ifure, the coalition expressed concern over the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, describing it as a failure of leadership that is negatively affecting the welfare of the people.

The CDD emphasized the need for urgent intervention, urging President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to establish a committee of respected Nigerians to mediate and find a lasting resolution to the conflict.

“We call on Wike and Fubara to prioritize the interests of the people by reaching a peaceful resolution. A new peace pact should be signed within the next 90 days to ensure stability in Rivers State,” the statement read.

The coalition further warned that the Nigerian public will hold both leaders accountable if they fail to resolve their differences within the stipulated timeframe.

“This is a defining moment for President Tinubu’s administration. His leadership in addressing the Rivers State crisis will set a precedent for democratic governance in Nigeria. We urge him to focus on national unity and the welfare of the people by facilitating a peaceful resolution,” the statement added.

The CDD called on all stakeholders to embrace dialogue and work towards a sustainable solution that will restore peace and stability in Rivers State.
