In a stunning result at the Ardova Handball Premier League in Benin, the newly promoted COAS Shooters shocked defending champions Tojemarine HBC with a 23–21 victory during Phase One action on Wednesday.
Led by coach Emeka Nnamani, the Army team dominated from the start, building a commanding 17–8 lead by halftime thanks to cohesive defence and efficient finishing. Though Tojemarine attempted a comeback in the second half, their efforts fell short as COAS Shooters held firm to clinch the win .
COAS Shooters, relegated last season but promoted back this year, are making a statement. Nnamani praised his young squad’s fitness and mental resilience, declaring: “This victory against the defending champions will propel us to more wins.” He highlighted the rising standard of the league and the impact of emerging talents .
