The Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major General Abubakar Abubakar, on Friday, led a high-powered delegation to Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as part of efforts to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the 2025 farming season.
During the visit, Major General Abubakar engaged with local stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, youth representatives, farmers, and herders, to deliberate on strategies to promote peaceful coexistence and prevent conflicts that often arise during the farming season. The meeting, held at the council secretariat, also had in attendance senior security operatives and local government officials.
Speaking at the engagement, the OPSH Commander emphasized that the primary objective of the security forces is to create an environment where farmers and herders can carry out their activities without fear or intimidation. He assured the communities that Operation Safe Haven is committed to maintaining law and order, and would act decisively against any individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the peace.
“We are here to listen, to build trust, and to work with you in ensuring that this farming season is free of violence and intimidation. Security is a shared responsibility, and we count on your cooperation to achieve lasting peace,” Major General Abubakar said.
The Commander also warned against the spread of fake news and incitement, which he said have in the past worsened tensions between farming and pastoral communities. He encouraged the people to report any suspicious activities promptly to the security agencies for quick intervention.
Stakeholders at the meeting commended the proactive approach of Operation Safe Haven and pledged their support towards ensuring a peaceful farming season. Community leaders also appealed for continuous dialogue, fair mediation in disputes, and the provision of more security patrols in flashpoint areas.
The visit to Sanga is part of a broader security outreach by Operation Safe Haven across the North Central region, aimed at consolidating peace efforts following years of communal tensions and clashes, particularly during farming periods.
With the farming season already beginning in parts of Kaduna, Plateau, and Bauchi states, security agencies are intensifying surveillance and community engagement to prevent any resurgence of violence that could threaten food security and livelihoods in the region.
