In a strategic move to bolster inter-agency cooperation and enhance border security, the Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mohammed Shuaibu, has embarked on a series of courtesy visits to key security agencies and traditional institutions across Lagos and Ogun States.
During a visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, Comptroller Shuaibu underscored the need for unity among law enforcement bodies in combating cross-border crimes and ensuring internal security.
“We are serving the nation, so we must synergise and collaborate. We enjoy more of your synergy because you are the lead agency regarding internal security. I still need your support, especially in curbing criminality and facilitating intelligence sharing,” he stated.
In his response, CP Jimoh assured Shuaibu of the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to working closely with the Nigeria Customs Service to achieve national security objectives.
“We will continue to strengthen our cooperation for improved service delivery and greater national productivity,” the Police Commissioner affirmed.
Comptroller Shuaibu also visited the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, where he described the military as a vital partner in frontline enforcement operations. He was warmly received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, who commended the Comptroller’s track record and pledged continued military support.
“We know you are coming with a great wealth of experience, which is highly needed. Be assured of our partnership as you pursue your mandate,” said the GOC.
In a demonstration of inclusive and community-based leadership, Comptroller Shuaibu also paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers in both Lagos and Ogun States, seeking royal blessings and community support for Customs operations.
Among the monarchs he met were the Akran of Badagry, HRM De-Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi I; the Alapa of Apa Egun Awori Kingdom, Oba Oyekan Ilufemiloye; the Akweno of Kwemen Kingdom, Oba Sejiro James; and the Onibereko of Ibereko, Oba Adewale Okoya.
In Ogun State, the Customs chief was received by the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewa Land, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle; the Onikpokia of Ikpokia, Oba Yisa Adeniyi Olaniyan; and the Olu of Owode, Oba Matthew Akindele.
“We are here to consolidate on the policy thrust of our Comptroller General, which is built on collaboration, transformation, and synergy with host communities,” Shuaibu stated, emphasizing continuity in stakeholder relations.
The royal fathers offered prayers for a successful tenure and pledged their support for the Customs Service’s mission.
To wrap up his engagements, Comptroller Shuaibu visited field officers at the Apa/Owode and Gbaji checkpoints, urging them to uphold discipline, professionalism, and vigilance in carrying out their duties.
The visits form part of Shuaibu’s broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen stakeholder partnerships, and reinforce the Customs Service’s role in national security and economic stability.
