Seme Customs Collaborates with Media, Community Leaders to Boost Border Security

July 5, 2025 | Seme, Lagos State

In a renewed effort to bolster national security and enhance public trust, the Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has engaged media practitioners and opinion leaders within the border community in a strategic dialogue aimed at improving information sharing and collaboration.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Timi Bomodi, led the engagement session, which was held at the command headquarters in Seme. The initiative forms part of the Service’s broader outreach to promote transparency, public enlightenment, and community-based intelligence gathering.

Comptroller Bomodi emphasized the role of the media and local influencers in fostering peace and national unity, especially in border communities where illicit cross-border activities remain a concern.

“The security of our borders is not the sole responsibility of the Nigeria Customs Service. It requires the cooperation and vigilance of the media, traditional leaders, and the general public,” he stated.

He highlighted the significance of honest reportage and responsible public commentary in shaping perceptions and supporting enforcement efforts. “We are not just facilitating trade, but also safeguarding our national interests. We need your voices to echo this mission,” he added.

Participants at the meeting pledged continued support for the command, calling for sustained engagement and mutual trust. They also stressed the importance of frequent community sensitization to dissuade residents from aiding smuggling and other economic crimes.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment to a more united approach to border management and national security.
