Coronation of Oba Akeem Owoade as 46th Alaafin of Oyo Preparatory Rituals

The final phase of traditional rites, known as Oro Ipebi, was held on Friday night at the Sango shrine in Koso, Oyo town. The Alaafin-elect, Oba Akeem Owoade I, spent the night at the shrine, where he was adorned with the Sango crown by Baba Mogba early Saturday morning. This ritual is a crucial step in preparing the monarch for his new role.

Selection and Recognition
Oba Owoade’s selection as Alaafin followed extensive consultations among the Oyo Mesi and other kingmakers. Governor Seyi Makinde presented him with the staff of office on January 13, 2025, recognizing his new role as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
