Abuja, Nigeria – June 9, 2025
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Ali Biu, has commended the management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, for its swift and coordinated response during a recent emergency that required urgent medical intervention for accident victims.
During an official visit to the facility on Monday, the Corps Marshal expressed his appreciation for the professionalism displayed by the hospital’s personnel, who promptly attended to multiple crash victims brought in by FRSC operatives. He noted that such collaboration between emergency response agencies and healthcare institutions plays a critical role in saving lives.
“I want to personally commend the leadership and medical team at FMC Abuja for their timely and humane response during a critical moment. Their swift action ensured that lives were stabilised and preserved,” Biu said.
The visit, which also served as a courtesy call, allowed both institutions to deliberate on strengthening inter-agency synergy, especially in the area of post-crash care and first responder communication. The Corps Marshal emphasised the importance of an institutional culture that prioritises emergency preparedness, stressing that proactive systems must be put in place to handle mass casualty incidents more efficiently.
He further called on other medical centres across the country to emulate FMC Abuja’s example by adopting standard emergency protocols, ensuring that designated trauma units are fully functional and accessible at all times.
Dr. Saidu Ahmed, the Chief Medical Director of FMC Abuja, received the Corps Marshal and expressed his commitment to continuing partnership with the FRSC and other emergency bodies. He disclosed that the hospital is working on expanding its emergency ward and investing in continuous staff training to meet the rising demand for trauma care in the Federal Capital Territory.
“We appreciate the recognition by the Corps Marshal. At FMC Abuja, we consider emergency response not just a service, but a duty to humanity. We are committed to raising the bar in medical emergency care,” Dr. Ahmed stated.
The Corps Marshal’s visit comes as road traffic incidents continue to pose a significant public health challenge in Nigeria. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria recorded over 13,000 road traffic crashes in 2024, with thousands of lives lost and many more injured — further underscoring the need for seamless collaboration between first responders and health institutions.
Both the FRSC and FMC Abuja affirmed their shared resolve to deepen their partnership in pursuit of a safer and more responsive national emergency framework.
