FRSC Arrests Over 15,000 Traffic Offenders in Ondo Within Seven Months

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Ondo State has recorded 15,145 traffic violations between January and July this year, according to state sector commander Samuel Ibitoye.

In an interview on Sunday, Ibitoye revealed that offenders committed 15,536 infractions including seatbelt violations, riding motorcycles without helmets, improper number plates, speeding, overloading and phone use while driving.

The FRSC official emphasized the corps’ dual approach of enforcement and public education to curb road accidents. “We don’t just book offenders; we conduct safety checks and advocacy to drive attitudinal change,” Ibitoye stated.

He particularly urged commercial vehicle operators to install speed limit devices, noting their benefits in regulating speed, improving fuel efficiency and enhancing road safety. “Speeding remains Nigeria’s leading cause of fatal crashes. All motorists must take responsibility for road safety to protect lives,” the commander warned.

The FRSC maintains daily patrols across Ondo State as part of efforts to reduce Nigeria’s high road fatality rate. Authorities continue pushing for stricter compliance with traffic regulations through a combination of penalties and public awareness campaigns.
