The Director‑General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig‑Gen. Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has cautioned corps members against abandoning their mandatory service commitments in favour of travel abroad. He emphasised that any leave for foreign travel must be officially authorised by the NYSC DG himself, and warned that unauthorised departures from camps or places of primary assignment would attract sanctions under the scheme’s by‑laws.
Speaking this week, he reminded corps members of their duty to remain focused, law‑abiding, and fully committed throughout their service year. He reiterated that applications for overseas trips must go through proper channels, and stressed that unauthorised travel would not be tolerated.
He also advised corps members to avoid night travels unless strictly necessary, and then only after obtaining formal approval. Where travel becomes unavoidable, he instructed them to cease movement by 6 pm and stay in secure locations such as military barracks, police stations, or NYSC lodges.
By reinforcing these rules, the NYSC DG aims to safeguard the welfare and security of corps members, ensuring they complete their service obligations before considering travel overseas.
