Abuja, Nigeria — August 14, 2025 | The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has emerged victorious in its protracted legal battle with former federal lawmaker, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, after a court dismissed his ₦5 billion damages claim.
The dispute, rooted in Ararume’s removal as board chairman of NNPCL, had dragged on for months before the court’s verdict put the matter to rest. In its ruling, the court sided with the state-owned oil company, rejecting all claims for compensation.
In a statement, NNPCL described the judgment as a vindication of its corporate governance framework and legal position. The company pledged to continue operating with transparency and accountability while advancing reforms to maximise value for Nigerians in the oil and gas sector.
The decision spares NNPCL from a hefty financial payout, marking the end of a high-profile legal tussle that had drawn significant public attention.
