Court Stops CCII’s Scheduled Polls on April 4

The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has issued an order halting the planned elections of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), the foremost socio-cultural group of Ibadan, which were set to take place on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Justice Ladiran Akintola issued the ruling on Thursday, following an application filed by Mr. Adeola Oloko, a journalist and candidate for the position of Secretary-General in the upcoming CCII election. Oloko, who previously served as a Personal Assistant to the 41st Olubadan, the late Oba Saliu Adetunji, raised concerns regarding his disqualification from the race. He argued that the CCII Electoral Committee had acted in an unjust and biased manner by excluding him from the electoral process.

In his application, Oloko, through his lawyer Hussein Afolabi, accused the electoral body of disenfranchising him and his sponsor, the Afikaraun Forimu Club of Ibadan land. According to Oloko, the committee’s decision to label him with severe terms such as “impersonation” and “falsification” was both unfounded and damaging to his reputation. He vehemently denied the accusations and demanded that the committee specify the individual he had allegedly impersonated and the records he was accused of falsifying, challenging the derogatory terms used to describe him.

Oloko further emphasized the serious harm the allegations had caused to his family’s name, suggesting that if the election proceeded without addressing these accusations, it would result in irreversible damage to his personal and family reputation.

The court has adjourned the case to April 10, 2025, for the hearing of the interlocutory injunction filed by Oloko. This ruling temporarily halts the CCII election process until the matter is resolved in court.
