Customs Chief Lauds Medical Corps as Key Drivers of National Health

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has commended the Customs Medical Corps for their unwavering dedication and pivotal role in enhancing national healthcare delivery, particularly within the service.

Speaking during a special engagement session with the medical personnel at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja, CG Adeniyi described the medical corps as “unsung heroes” who contribute immensely to the wellbeing of officers and the general public.

He noted that the NCS Medical Corps has played a significant role in improving health service accessibility within Customs formations across the country, while also responding to national emergencies and public health crises when called upon.

“The Customs Medical Unit is not only a support system within our Service, but a critical stakeholder in the broader national health framework. Their professionalism, sacrifice, and quiet resilience deserve to be recognised and celebrated,” the Comptroller-General stated.

He further revealed plans to strengthen the unit through enhanced capacity building, investment in modern medical equipment, and improved welfare packages for healthcare personnel in the Service.

The session also provided an opportunity for the medical corps to raise concerns and make recommendations for improved service delivery. CG Adeniyi assured that the leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to supporting the corps and expanding its role in national health development.

The Customs Medical Corps, which includes doctors, nurses, paramedics, and administrative support staff, operates health facilities across the country, offering care to officers, their families, and communities in remote border areas.
