In a renewed effort to reduce road traffic accidents and promote responsible road behavior, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have joined forces to intensify public awareness on safer road use across the country.
The collaboration, which was announced following a joint meeting between senior officials of both agencies, will involve coordinated sensitization campaigns targeting commercial drivers, private motorists, and road transport unions. These campaigns aim to emphasize the importance of vehicle compliance, proper documentation, speed regulation, and defensive driving.
According to the Comptroller-General of Customs, the initiative underscores the need for inter-agency synergy in addressing the alarming rate of road crashes, many of which are attributed to negligence, poor vehicle conditions, and disregard for traffic laws.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, also reiterated the Corps’ commitment to working closely with Customs to ensure the safety of road users, particularly along major trade corridors and border routes where both agencies operate.
The partnership will see officers from both agencies deployed in joint outreach activities, road checks, and educational engagements aimed at reinforcing the culture of safety and compliance among Nigerian motorists.
Stakeholders have hailed the initiative as a step in the right direction, calling for sustained public enlightenment and enforcement to reduce preventable fatalities and ensure safer highways for all.
