Customs Intercept 16 Containers of Contraband Goods Worth Over N10 Billion in Lagos

Lagos, August 11, 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted sixteen containers laden with contraband goods valued at more than N10 billion at the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports in Lagos.

The seized items include prohibited products such as substandard electronics, counterfeit pharmaceuticals, and smuggled luxury goods, according to Customs officials. The operation was part of intensified efforts to curb illegal imports and protect the Nigerian economy.

Customs Comptroller in charge of Lagos ports, Comptroller Musa Ibrahim, stated that the successful interception followed meticulous intelligence gathering and coordinated enforcement actions. He warned smugglers that the Nigeria Customs Service remains vigilant and committed to securing the nation’s borders.

Authorities assured the public that the seized goods will be properly disposed of in line with existing regulations, and that ongoing collaborations with other security agencies will continue to stem the tide of illicit trade.
