Customs Kano/Jigawa Command Conducts Sensitisation on Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Initiative

Kano — The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kano/Jigawa Command recently held a sensitisation workshop to educate stakeholders on the benefits and operational framework of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Initiative aimed at enhancing trade facilitation and security.

The event brought together customs officials, importers, exporters, freight forwarders, and other key players in the supply chain to discuss how the AEO program supports legitimate businesses by simplifying customs procedures, reducing delays, and promoting compliance with international trade standards.

The Command’s Area Controller, Comptroller Habibu Yusuf, stressed that the initiative is designed to build trust between the Customs Service and businesses, encouraging voluntary compliance and boosting Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.

“Through the AEO program, certified companies gain faster clearance, fewer inspections, and improved partnership with customs, ultimately enhancing ease of doing business in Nigeria,” Comptroller Yusuf explained.

Participants were briefed on the application process, eligibility criteria, and responsibilities of AEO-certified operators, while also addressing concerns regarding operational challenges.

The Kano/Jigawa Command reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s trade facilitation agenda and encouraged more businesses to participate actively in the AEO scheme.
